Storm

I'm not sure whether it's luck or fate, but I dodged a bullet last night.

We had an incredibly severe storm come through last night. Like a dunce, I kitted up my camera and went out and sat in the car to photograph the worst of it.

And the worst was pretty terrible. I will be putting the pictures up a bit later, but I came pretty close to danger. The wind was blowing hard enough that my vehicle was rocking on its suspension. All the trees were bent at odd angles, and the only sound besides the thunder and pelting rain, was this long, low moan that seemed to be coming from everywhere.

There was lightning everywhere, and I don't mean sheet lightning like we usually get. Trees were getting struck everywhere. The closest bolt hit about 10, maybe 15 feet away from me. I got a picture, but unfortunately, it only came out as a white blur because it was so close.

Scary stuff.

I guess a lot of the city is without power right now, and there's been more storms on and off for the whole day. I don't think I've ever had a summer like this, where we're worried about wind damage and the threat of twisters.

All the days have been blending together for me, but this may have been the same day we had the same sort of trouble out here.

I was sleeping in a mother fucking trailer when shit kicked off and I thought it was going to topple. It didn't even sound like wind when I first woke up. It was like someone screaming at the top of their lungs or something.

I went inside the house and just watched in awe. I've NEVER in all my years living out here seen wind that strong.

I watched trees topple and heavy ass metal chairs slide with ease along the deck.

The rain and lightning came after the wind which made it even stranger.

Yours sounds perhaps even more impressive, though. Lightning is awesome, but maybe not when it is that close to you.

ah who am I kidding, it's still awesome.

I love lightning but that close would freak the hell out of me. I look forward to the pictures though. I was sad I missed the storm as we were away camping although I did see some footage on youtube!

Storms in Alberta freak me out PERIOD. All of them. They're always terrible, it seems. And the lightning..incredibly intense.

GLAD YOU DIDN'T GET STRUCK.
